Once Bangladesh was known as the country of ‘golden fibre’ because of the quality of jute it produced. Even today, the major producing country of jute in the world is Bangladesh, due to its natural fertile soil. Bangladesh is also the leading exporter of jute goods in the world and her share in the global market is gradually increasing.
Jute and jute products accounts for 3.81 percent of total export of Bangladesh. Jute goods are exported to over 85 countries including turkey, Iran, Belgium, Canada, Japan, EU, and the United Sates. Bangladesh also exports raw jute to 59 countries including Brazil, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Germany, India, Pakistan, Spain, USA and UK.
In 2011, Mr. Sardar Shams AL Mamun (Chasi Mamun) a social activist and journalist founded PATSHALA. As a Jute Study & Promotion Center, PATSHALA was mainly formed with the Manufacturers, Exporters, Traders, Producers, Designers, Promoters and Suppliers of jute diversified items throughout the country.
